Don’t install the new macOS Mojave 10.14 just yet, this is very important if you are Fatboy Slim (Serato DJ Pro doesn’t work), this also applies to proper musicians and recording podcasters and includes others such as Jo Whiley and Emily Eavis.

Actually Fatboy, you can go ahead and install Mojave now and update to Serato DJ Pro 2.0.5, everything works fine. You’ll be very pleased when you upgrade. There’s a great new way to deal with all those files on your cluttered desktop, its a bit like smart mailboxes on email, you’ll either tear your hair out or get the idea pretty quick, its up to you. Dark mode looks great on stage too.
If you cannot install macOS Mojave (10.14) then you should ensure you are up to date with macOS High Sierra (10.13.6) since all older mac systems are hackable by Salisbury Cathedral enthusiasts and Chinese university students. Unplug before bedtime, always use a (paid for) VPN.
So what’s it all about for the rest of us?
Nothing much really. Don’t bother to update and you’ll probably be ok until Christmas. Just don’t click on anything that you don’t completely understand and never ever ever ask someone else or a non-Apple computer program to rememberize your passwords. If you update to macOS Mojave your computer will make sure you know all your passwords (because it will deliberately forget them all), this is true even if you’ve got 1Password / Iknowallyoursecrets / you’vebeentotallyhacked dot app. Now is a good time to buy a new moleskin notepad and write down all your important email addresses, usernames and passwords, such as iCloud, iTunes, AppleID. If anyone else knows these passwords then you are doing it wrong. Keep the notepad in your pants or other safe place for easy access. Buy a good pen or pencil. Remember where you put it, especially the pen or pencil.
With Mojave installed some of your ancient programs will prompt or remind you that the end is nigh and you should find a 64bit version of the software you that you have previously relied on for decades. Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac was written with dual 32bit processors in mind, this has been faking 64bit processing by pretending to be the equivalent, which in 2008 mathematical terms is true but is a lie in 2018 where we now use true 64bit processors. As Professor Richard Feynman may have put it; the difference between 32bit and 64bit computing is the same as understanding something well and a dinosaur looking through your first floor bedroom window. But it is easy to understand why this has happened, all of the computery stuff that you thought you knew has increased in exponential complexity so some of the older concepts have had to be abandoned. Your computer password needs to be longer but some of your 32bit programs cannot use such a long password. These programs will not be compatible with future versions of macOS (Mojave +1 for example) and even now they get messed up when Safari tries to help.
Its ok, update and keep up. Eventually we might get there.
